May Prospects of the Month

While the major league Dodgers surged to the front of the National League in May, quite a few Dodger prospects had months to remember. Jordan Sheffield and Edwin Uceta earned themselves promotions, as well as the recently promoted Andre Jackson. A few of the others on this list could earn themselves a promotion in the near future if they continue what they did last month.

Position Player: Niko Hulsizer

Hulsizer has been an absolute monster for Great Lakes this year, and he really looked good in May. The former Morehead State star slashed .330/.446/.720 last month, with ten homers in just 27 games, which is especially impressive considering the general offensive environment of the Midwest League. Hulsizer had a whopping wRC+ of 221 and an absurd ISO of .390. He still struck out at a 24% clip, which is high, but he also walked 12% of the time. Hulsizer should earn himself a ticket to Rancho very soon.

Honorable Mentions: Gavin Lux, Miguel Vargas, Cody Thomas, Devin Mann

Pitcher: Edwin Uceta

Uceta killed it in May on his way to a promotion to Double-A Tulsa. He didn’t even spend a full year in Rancho, after being promoted there last August. In five starts last month, he put up a 1.86 ERA over 29 innings, striking out 33% of the batters he faced and walking just 5%. Batters hit just .204 off him this month, and he allowed less than one baserunner per inning over his impressive stretch. Uceta is now one of the youngest players in the Texas League, where he’ll hope to continue his strong season.

Honorable Mentions: Andre Jackson, Wills Montgomerie, Josiah Gray, Jordan Sheffield
